Today marks the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere. The sun will set at 10.06 pm tonight, making this day 9 hours and 8 minutes longer than the solstice in December.
What a beautiful day for it, with temperatures soaring to 22°C degrees at 4 pm today in Amsterdam and glorious weather set to continue for days after the summer solstice. Wednesday will be even warmer, with highs of 24°C degrees forecast and lows of 17°C. So, it will feel like summer day and night!
On Thursday the weather’s going to be even warmer, reaching 28°C degrees, which is 10 degrees hotter than the same day last year. Friday won’t be as sunny but it will still be pretty warm, with highs of 23°C and then we’ll see the temperature drop slightly but with highs above 20°C until the end of the month.
It’s not often that we have proper summer weather in the Netherlands but this week is the optimal time to get the BBQ out, go for a swim at the beach or even visit one of Amsterdam’s many city beaches. Just be sure to bring your suncream and antihistamines because the UV Index and pollen count will be high.
