Look Back Through The Decades With These Old Photos Of Amsterdam

By Katherine Notman

These old photos of Amsterdam show how the city has evolved.

People have been living in Amsterdam since at least the 12th century when it was recognised as a small fishing village. The city would become one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age and now it is the most populous city in the Netherlands. The Instagram and Facebook account Oud Amsterdam has partnered with Amsterdam City Archives, the National Archives and the Institute for Sound and Vision to bring us all some beautiful old photos of Amsterdam’s history and they’re absolutely enthralling.
