Starting today, a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour applies along the entire length of Weesperstraat. The construction work that began on August 31 has been completed, and the street has been narrowed effective immediately from two lanes to one lane in each direction. While previous localized lane reductions had already caused some delays last week, the new traffic configuration is now in effect throughout the entire street.
Trial period and evaluation for the final design

The changes are intended not only to make the street safer and quieter but also to provide space for additional greenery and loading and unloading zones. According to Councilor Moeskops, it will take some getting used to at first, but Weesperstraat will thus become a more pleasant living environment. Motorists who adhere to the speed limit will also benefit more often from a “green wave” at the traffic lights.
This is a temporary arrangement that is being closely monitored, according to city channel AT5. An evaluation will take place at the end of this year, after which the municipality will work toward the final design, which is scheduled for completion in 2027.
