This weekend (September 13–14), Urbanites United will transform Amsterdam into a massive open-air gallery. The city will (literally) become a living canvas, inviting everyone to discover large-scale murals, hidden artworks, live painting sessions, and open artist studios across seven neighborhoods. It is the world’s first street art weekend of this scale, combining interactive art, community initiatives, and carefully mapped routes to explore the city in a creative way.
A city-wide canvas comes to life under Urbanites United
Amsterdam has long been a hub for avant-garde art, and with Urbanites United, this reputation comes into full bloom. The festival, curated by the Street Art Museum Amsterdam, showcases work by established names such as Hugo Kaagman, London Police, and Paul Watty, alongside emerging local and international artists. The artworks, both new and existing, are spread across seven neighborhoods, from the historic canals to modern districts. They are mapped out in advance so that art lovers can find their way on foot, by bike, or by public transportation. This map is also available digitally via the event website. It highlights murals and art installations, giving visitors the tools to discover masterpieces in unexpected places.

But Urbanities United is more than just murals! It’s a multifaceted encounter with street culture. Throughout the weekend, there will be live painting sessions and open studios where artists throw their doors wide open. There are also guided tours that wind through both central districts and off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods. Don’t miss the Paint & Beer Festival, the graffiti flea market, or the chance to meet the creators behind the art—here, the boundaries between creators and the public blur. All of this aims to reconnect Amsterdam’s communities with their urban environment and remind us that the city itself is a living gallery, shaped by its residents.
