Gachapon shops are rare outside of Japan, but we have the only one in Europe right here in Amsterdam. Japanophiles (people who love Japanese culture) will love this place, filled with a huge variety of small toys in capsules for you to enjoy.
Gachapons are toys that come out of iconic vending machines in round plastic containers, and if you get a good one, they can be worth quite a bit of money. Generally, these toys feature characters from video games, anime, and manga.
However, you’ll also find characters from major movies and series that aren’t anime or manga, such as Star Wars. There’s a wide variety of characters and colors in every machine, so the excitement lies in the surprise. Who knows what you’ll get once you’ve put your money in and turned the lever, making that satisfying clicking sound.
At The Otaking, you can expect hundreds of different gachapon, including those from series like Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z. They also have plenty of items from Spy Family, Neon Genesis Evangelion, One Piece, and Demon Slayer, to name just a few.
On a rainy day, it’s the perfect place to entertain yourself and score a few gachapons. At The Otaking, they also have plenty of figurines and plamo—plastic model kits—along with T-shirts and lots of artwork.
Whether you’re a manga or anime fan, a self-proclaimed fantasy nerd, or just want to browse, we recommend stopping by. You’ll find this shop in the city center at Spuistraat 84A, 1012 TX , and it’s open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
