Cold days in Amsterdam call for delicious syrupy stroopwafels and a warming cup of rich hot chocolate, and there’s nowhere that delivers this combo quite like Van Wonderen Stroopwafel which opened in 2017. Colin van Wonderen was inspired to open the shop by his grandfather who would take him to eat fresh, warm stroopwafels at the market, which is where he fell in love with this Dutch staple. Their incredible stroopwafels come with a huge range of tempting toppings, making this place a veritable stroopwafel heaven.
Stroopwafels have to be one of the most popular Dutch exports. On average each Dutch person eats around 20 a year! You can buy them worldwide, but they are of course best eaten in the Netherlands. Two warm waffles are sandwiched together by caramel to make these beauties, and if that doesn’t have you salivating then what don’t know what will.
What makes the stroopwafels at Van Wonderen so special is not only the perfectly crafted recipe but the fact that there are so many different varieties on offer. From chocolate and marshmallow-topped delights to mouthwatering kletskop-covered wafels, there’s something for everyone with a sweet tooth.
Whether you pair yours with a coffee or a nice hot chocolate, it’s the perfect treat for a winter’s day and you can find the shop at Kalverstraat 190, 1012 XH. The shop is open daily from 10 am until 10 pm and in the window you’ll see the cutest little hot air balloons holding aloft some delicious wafels, creating the cutest atmosphere in this lovely shop.
