The weather’s getting hotter and we’re looking forward to a whole host of fun things to do this June in Amsterdam. There’s plenty on the roster and one thing’s for certain – you won’t be bored this month!
With free festivals, Candlelight Concerts and plenty of immersive exhibitions to experience, there’s plenty on offer. Don’t miss these amazing events, some of which happen only once a year!
1. Holland Festival
Holland Festival will take place from June 1 to July 1 this year at various Amsterdam locations. It’s a celebration of creativity, showcasing talented performers and writers in various fields like theatre, music dance, and opera.
Performers have traveled from far and wide to bring Amsterdam a big dose of culture and there you can see groundbreaking and inspiring performances. This festival is popular but there are still some tickets for certain shows available on the website.
2. RTXP Amsterdam
RTXP is an immersive art experience well worth checking out. There you can see beautiful recreations of classic paintings up close and personal, paintings like ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’, and ‘The Birth of Venus’.
There are rooms dedicated to Vermeer, Van Gogh, Mondrian, and many more talented artists whose works you can usually only appreciate from behind a barrier. The highlight of the experience however is a 360° painting of the Japanese bridge in Monet’s Givern garden. You can book tickets on the website.
3. Candlelight: A Tribute to Adele
On June 23, at the stunning Rode Hoad in Amsterdam, you can experience an unmissable concert dedicated to the music of world-renowned singer Adele. It’s not your usual, run-of-the-mill tribute act.
No, instead Adele’s music will be performed by the Strijkkwartet, Lucerna Quartet to the glow of thousands of flickering candles. Expect to hear songs like ‘Rolling In The Deep’, ‘Rumour Has It’ and ‘Hello’ in a way you will never have experienced before.
4. Bacchus Wine Festival
5. Take a day trip to a pretty village near Amsterdam
With the promise of warmer weather on the way, we’re looking forward to exploring the Netherlands and if you’re after a short day trip then you’re in luck! There are plenty of pretty villages near Amsterdam where you can catch some sea air or sample some delicious Dutch culture (cheese).
6. Candlelight: Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake & More ft. Ballet
Another stunning Candlelight Concert is coming to Amsterdam but this time there’s a twist! Two incredible ballet dancers will be performing alongside the band, bringing some extra sparkle to the evening.
You can catch it on June 17 and it’s going to be spectacular. Hear compositions like ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’ and ‘Spanish Dance’ played by Strijkquartet – Lucerna quartet to a room full of flickering candles.
Ballet dancers Alexandra Urcia Nunura & Heyler Jesús Lameda will dance to several of the songs as you sit back and enjoy the show. KIT Amsterdam will have never looked prettier!
7. Vondelpark Openlucht Theatre
Every Saturday and Sunday from now until the end of summer you can catch performances at Vondelpark. It’s even completely free to attend!
You’ll find a mixture of performances for adults, families, and children including classical presentations and musical acts. Then, you can just sit back and enjoy a picnic in this beautiful park. Check out the website for more information.
8. Fabrique des Lumières
Another fantastic immersive experience that you can’t afford to miss this June is Fabrique des Lumières, where art really comes to life. There you can see both modern and classic artwork as you’ve never seen it before.
Likelike projections of masterpieces line the walls, offering you the chance to see the details writ large. These projections are up to 17 metres high and, paired with sound technology, light and video the atmosphere is just irresistible. At Fabrique des Lumières you can literally walk into art!
So there you have it, what a fun-packed month! It’s definitely time to get out and breathe some fresh air as the sun finally shines on Amsterdam!
