A glitzy, glittery, and irresistibly retro roller rink is set to open this month, on December 18, and we can’t wait! Roller Dreams will take us back to the era of big hair and bodysuits – when mobile phones were huge (some things don’t change) and arcade games were all the rage.
This magnificent new rink had been designed by WONDR, who have already brought the incredible Wondr Experience and Pink Beach to Amsterdam. It’s going to be just as bright, bold, and colourful as those stunning places. Decked out with disco balls and neon lights, Roller Dreams is set to be super-Instagrammable and we bet it will be all over everybody’s feeds by Christmas time.
Tunes from the ’80s will set the atmosphere as visitors glide around the rink with that feeling of freedom unique to the experience of rollerskating. Perhaps this is why rollerskating has made such a comeback this year. Founder Sarah Mendes thinks that rollerskating has offered people an escape from confinement during the pandemic and it’s certainly true that nowadays you see far more people skating around Amsterdam’s streets and parks.
It’s an incredible way to have fun with friends and keep fit, and Roller Dreams takes its inspiration from the famous Flipper’s Roller Palace, an LA brand that was super-popular with celebrities in the ’80s. Neon palm trees at Roller Dreams pay homage to that glamorous Venice Beach lifestyle.
Roller Dreams will open between 11 am and 5 pm every day, and you do have to present a vaccination QR code or a negative Covid-19 test result to be admitted. You can book tickets online, and €19.50 gets you 90 minutes in the rink with skate rental included.
