18 is the age at which many people begin making their own way in the world, which often involves a bit of travel to broaden the mind. However, travel isn’t cheap and at 18 most people don’t have a lot of cash to spend. However, thanks to the Discover EU initiative 18 year olds can apply to win free train travel in Europe!
The initiative dates back to 2018 and it serves as a way to get young adults exploring the continent. Since 2018, over 165,000 people have won free train travel through the scheme and this year it will give away a further 35,000 free train tickets to eligible candidates.
If you were born between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004 and you’re an EU citizen (or a citizen of Liechtenstein, Iceland, North Macedonia, Serbia, Norway or Turkey) you can apply. You can either apply on your own or you can apply with a group of friends you’d like to take with you if you win. Up to 5 people can apply as a group.
Should you win (fingers crossed), you’ll be entitled to free train travel across Europe between March 1, 2023 and February 29, 2024, for the period of one month. There are tons of discounts included in the Discover EU card too, like discounts of food and tickets to attractions.
Fancy your chances? You can apply here, and you can until October 11. Then, in March, it’s the turn of those born between a little earlier, who will turn 18 in the first half of 2023. Good luck!
