Amsterdam’s most vibrant Arab cultural celebration is back—and this year it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary! The SOUK Festival is taking over the Concertgebouw once again, transforming this iconic venue into a magical souk filled with music, dance, poetry, and storytelling. From legendary artists to fresh new surprises: this anniversary edition promises six hours of unforgettable performances.
Step into the souk: where cultures come together at the Concertgebouw

The SOUK Festival isn’t just any event—it’s a complete cultural takeover. For one dazzling evening, the Concertgebouw transforms into a bustling Arab market. Complete with traditional music, storytelling corners, immersive art, and the scent of spiced snacks wafting through the air. The journey begins with a musical voyage of discovery inspired by the 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta, brought to life with symphonic flair by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and a world premiere ballet by the Dutch National Ballet. Think of it as a grand adventure, complete with a fitting soundtrack.
Stars from the Arab world shine in Amsterdam

The stage is set for the kings of Arabic music! Carole Samaha, the Egyptian-Lebanese pop icon with a voice that combines the power of opera with the energy of pop, returns to the SOUK stage for the first time since 2014. Expect emotional highlights and glamorous hits as she performs with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Also in the spotlight is Naseer Shamma. The legendary ud virtuoso from Iraq and UNESCO Peace Ambassador, whose mesmerizing strings weave stories of ancient traditions with modern soul. With Bassem Akiki at the helm and a mix of Arab and Western musicians, this “orchestra meets the East” lineup is truly unique.
From Medina to modernity: a festival like no other

Wander through the foyers before the main performance and you’ll suddenly find yourself in the medinas of Marrakesh or the streets of modern Beirut. SOUK’s extensive foyer program celebrates the diversity of Arab heritage. From traditional dance to diaspora beats, from nostalgic poetry to groundbreaking installations. And don’t miss the Rihla. It’s a new exhibition featuring artworks inspired by the travels of Ibn Battuta, the legendary 14th-century explorer who traversed continents from North Africa to the Middle East and Asia. And yes! There’s also a SOUK Kids mini-festival. Perfect for families who want to join in early in the day. With 20 years of experience in bridging cultures, SOUK remains a unique festival where the magic of the Middle East meets the heartbeat of Amsterdam.
