Anyone who parks a car in front of their home in Amsterdam will pay significantly more for a parking permit starting in 2027. The Municipal Executive is raising rates citywide on top of the annual inflation adjustment.
Households with a second car will be hit the hardest and will pay up to €450 extra per year. Because the visitor permit program and senior citizen pass are also being scaled back, the decision affects virtually every car owner. Here’s what you’ll soon be paying in your neighborhood.
New rates by neighborhood for 2027

The additional costs depend on the permit zone and whether it is a first or second car. The city will deduct the amount every six months, in addition to the annual inflation adjustment:
- City Center (zones 1–3): The first resident permit will increase by €15 per month (€90 per half-year). For a second permit, the rate will increase by €37.50 per month (€225 per half-year, or €450 per year).
- Within the A10 (including West, East, South, and the Eastern Islands): The fee for the first car will increase by €12.50 per month (€75 per half-year). Any second permit will increase by €31.25 per month (€187.50 per half-year).
- Nieuw-West (3–5), West (6 and 12), and Zuid (6–7): Here, the fee for the first permit will increase by €10 per month (€60 per half-year) and the fee for the second permit by €25 per month (€150 per half-year).
- Geuzenveld and Weesp: To standardize the rates, Geuzenveld will see an increase of €3.72 per month for the first car and €9.30 for the second. In Weesp, the increase will be €2.04 per month for the first car and €9.48 for the second.
- Noord, Zuidoost, and Osdorp: These districts are off the hook. No additional rate increase applies here, meaning residents will pay only the regular inflation adjustment until 2029.
Visitor Permit Program and Scratch Card for Seniors to Be Scaled Back

Hosting visitors in Amsterdam will also become more expensive starting in 2027. The city is reducing the discount under the visitor program to a maximum of 40 percent. In districts where residents currently still receive a 65 percent discount on parking rates, the costs for visitors will rise significantly as a result.
In addition, the rules for the AOW scratch card are changing. The minimum age for this senior permit is rising from 65 to 67, in line with the national retirement age. Anyone who already holds such a parking permit at age 65 or 66 may continue to use it as usual under a transitional arrangement.
When will you start paying the new rate?

The new parking rates officially take effect on January 1, 2027. That doesn’t mean every driver will pay more immediately on New Year’s Day. The city will not charge the fees until the next semi-annual renewal of your permit.
For example, if your current permit period runs through April or May 2027, you’ll continue to pay the old amount until then. You’ll only see the increase reflected on your statement from the city starting with the new billing period. Anyone currently on the waiting list will pay the new rate immediately upon being assigned a permit.
