Imagine a summer evening under string lights, with illuminated theater tents, the scent of crêpes in the air, and surprise performances all around you. That’s Theaterfestival de Parade—the only traveling theater festival in the world. In 2025, it will tour Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, and Utrecht, with more than 80 unique performances and full of playful magic.
The only one of its kind
You read that right: Theaterfestival de Parade is the only traveling theater festival in the world. Every summer, it sets up its distinctive red tents in city parks throughout the Netherlands and transforms green spaces into colorful hubs of theater, music, dance, mime, and comedy. Each stop offers a different mix of performances—many created especially for the Parade—and no two days have the same program. Most performances last about 30 minutes, so you can freely hop from one show to the next, like a cultural tasting menu.
Behind the scenes: a carnival of creativity
The Parade isn’t just about what happens inside the tents. Take a ride on the iconic Swing Mill (if you dare to try to catch a glimpse of the angel on top), stumble upon impromptu performances during the Parade walk, or chill on a terrace while artists serve up surprising previews. There’s a special Kids’ Parade, a silent disco, and street corners that turn into stages without warning. Whether you’ve planned your evening or just came to wander around, the festival promises unexpected fun at every turn.
Food, Flavors & Festive Atmosphere
When it’s time to refuel, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The Parade grounds are filled with food stalls serving everything from Asian delicacies to spicy Indian curries. Craving something sweet? Make your own lollipop, bake poffertjes, or stack a crêpe to your own taste. Enjoy a cocktail, grab a local beer, and soak up the atmosphere! It’s just as much a culinary journey as it is a cultural one.
