Anyone who walks or bikes to Amsterdam Zuid Station on autopilot every day should be on the lookout starting Sunday, November 1. On that day, ProRail will officially open the brand-new Brittenpassage. This will shift the station’s main entrance about 200 meters to the west, near Parnassusweg.
At the same time, the familiar Minerva Passage is closing its doors after decades of service. This passageway will undergo a complete renovation over the next three years to be widened and raised. As a result, passengers will temporarily be able to reach their platforms only via the new western entrance.
New stores, bike parking, and revised walking routes

Starting Sunday, you’ll be able to reach the metro and train platforms exclusively via the new, 15-meter-wide Brittenpassage. Passengers will be able to transfer more quickly thanks to new escalators, elevators, and wide staircases with plenty of natural light. The morning routine will also change for cyclists. Beneath the passageway is a brand-new indoor bike parking facility with space for 2,000 bikes, allowing you to park in the dry and directly beneath the tracks.
Anyone used to grabbing a coffee right at the station will have to be patient for one more day. The new restaurants, cafes, and shops in the passageway won’t open until Tuesday, November 2. However, starting Sunday, the station will have its very own station piano. This major expansion is sorely needed: Zuid Station currently handles 75,000 passengers daily but is preparing for more than 200,000 passengers per day by around 2030.
