When you have small children, you must think about family-friendly establishments. Sometimes you’re worried that the atmosphere will be too “adult” and that your little one might get bored and make a scene and other times, you’re afraid they won’t find anything to their liking in the menu. Well, you can put those worries away! Secret Amsterdam has found three amazing children-friendly restaurants where all the family will have a blast.
Kinderkookkafé
The Kinderkookkafé, which opened more than 40 years ago in Amsterdam, is one of the coolest options in our list. Because here, not only will your kids satisfy their hunger with a great meal, but they will do everything themselves! As a matter of fact, “kinderkookkafé” means “children’s cooking cafe” in Dutch and as the name suggest, children select which food they would like to cook from a picture menu which includes sausage rolls, pizzas, and decorating cupcakes. They also set up the tables and serve their guests. Of course, what they do also depends on their age and there are adults to help them. But the purpose of it all is for them to feel responsible and have fun. It certainly works!
The café also has a playground area with a sand pit and places to climb, explore, hide. The menu is quite simple as it must be handled by kids, but you will definitely find some tasty sandwiches or cake, and plenty of coffee.

Pancake Boat
Amsterdam is never as beautiful as seen from its many amazing canals… The Pancake Boat will allow you to do it with your whole family while discovering the city and enjoying traditional Dutch pancakes! You’ll be able to do some sightseeing, as the boat cruises along the modern skyline of Amsterdam: the A’DAM Tower, the EYE Museum and THIS IS HOLLAND.
But let’s not forget the delicious food, as you will be able to enjoy unlimited freshly baked bacon, apple, and plain pancakes in a casual atmosphere. You can also decorate them with a wide variety of toppings! Kids especially love that part… Oh, and children under 3 years old can sail for free. Have fun!

Groot Melkhuis
Groot Melkhuis is great for kids, as it is situated right in the middle of Vondelpark. There is a huge terrace with lots of tables and a playground with swings and slides for the kids to run around together. The restaurant also organizes lots of fun activities to entertain the little ones, such as puppet shows and professional face painting.
The grown-ups can play too, as the Groot Melkhuis holds a collection of board games and a jeu de boules ground. As for the food, there is everything from toasties to salads with a kids’ menu full of sweet and salty snacks and dishes. See you there!
