Seize your chance on Saturday, November 7, to get your own tree for free in Noord. During the very last edition of “Trees for Amsterdam,” 4,000 native trees will be given away at the Tolhuistuin. Participation is free, but Amsterdammers must act fast to secure a free time slot online.
Choose from two hardy native species

When you sign up, you can choose between two native trees that will immediately enrich Amsterdam’s urban nature. The wild apple treats you to abundant blossoms in the spring and provides much-sought-after fruit for birds in the fall. If you’re looking for early color, choose the yellow dogwood: this early bloomer often turns golden yellow as early as February and offers the very first nectar to awakening insects.
You definitely don’t need a large garden to participate. Both species thrive effortlessly on a balcony or rooftop terrace, provided you give the roots enough room to grow. So make sure you have a spacious container of at least 50 liters and good potting soil ready on pickup day.
Here’s how to pick up your tree on Saturday

Anyone wishing to pick up a tree on Saturday, November 7, must reserve a free digital time slot in advance via the official website. Without this digital reservation, you will not be allowed onto the grounds. Due to the enormous crowds, there’s no point in just showing up spontaneously. Since this marks the final phase of the campaign, the rule is strict: once they’re gone, they’re gone.
The distribution site is located in the Tolhuistuin garden in Amsterdam-Noord, a few minutes’ walk from the Buiksloterweg ferry. Please come on foot or by bike if possible. The young trees are conveniently packaged with their roots protected, so you can easily transport your tree on a bike rack or in a cargo bike.
