This weekend (September 13–14), Urbanites United transforms Amsterdam into a vast open-air gallery. The city will (literally) become a living canvas inviting everyone to discover large-scale murals, hidden artworks, live painting sessions, and artists’ open studios across seven districts. It’s the world’s first street art weekend of this breadth, combining interactive art, community initiatives, and carefully mapped routes to explore the city through creativity.
A Citywide Canvas Comes Alive under Urbanites United
Amsterdam has long been a nexus for avant-garde art, and with Urbanites United this reputation steps into full bloom. Curated by the Street Art Museum Amsterdam, the festival showcases works by celebrated names. Think Hugo Kaagman, London Police, and Paul Watty alongside rising local and international artists. The artworks, both new and existing, are sited across seven districts, from the historic canals to modern neighbourhoods. You’ll fing them mapped in advance so art lovers can navigate by foot, bike or public transport. This mapping includes a digital map via the event site. It pinpoints murals and art installations, giving visitors the tools to uncover masterpieces in unexpected corners.
Encounters, Communities, and Unmissable Highlights

But Urbanites United is more than static murals! It’s a multi-faceted encounter with street culture. Throughout the weekend there are live painting sessions and open studios where artists throw open their doors. There are also guided tours that thread through both core districts and offbeat neighbourhoods. Don’t miss the Paint & Beer Festival, the graffiti flea market, or the chance to meet creators behind the art—this is where boundaries blur between creators and audience. All of this aims to reconnect Amsterdam’s communities with its urban surroundings, reminding us that the city itself is a living gallery shaped by its people.
