If you are 18 years old or will be 18 in 2024, the European Union will pay you a train pass to travel across the continent for an entire month. Yes, you’ve read that right! The DiscoverEU program launched the 2024 campaign on April 16 and 35,000 young Europeans will be able to get a free train ticket to travel around Europe for 30 days.
You’re 18 in 2024? Travel around Europe for free for 30 days!
Not everyone can apply for this travel pass, but it is worth doing if you’re already dreaming of Rome and Vienna and your pockets aren’t quite deep enough to fulfil that dream. So, how can you apply for the Discover EU program and are you eligible?
To qualify for this amazing opportunity, participants must meet the following criteria:
– You must be a citizen or resident of one of the Member States of the EU. This includes its Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs). Or, of one of the third countries associated to the Erasmus+ program (Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey).
– You must have a valid ID card, passport number or residence permit.
– You have to be born between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006 (included).
Note that registrations are open until April 30 at noon! Also, applicants will need to complete a quiz and the free passes will only be awarded to those who answer it correctly.
A month-long trip and lots of discounts
If your application is successful you will have the opportunity to travel for a period of 1 to 30 days between July 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025. You will also receive a DiscoverEU European Youth Card! This card offers lots of discounts on cultural visits, learning activities, sports, local transportation, accommodation and food… Isn’t this great?
