For a city that sits just a few feet above water level, Amsterdam has a lot of fantastic rooftop bars and restaurants. They offer outstanding views over the city and you can watch the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam without actually having to walk through it.
These nine amazing bars and restaurants have the best rooftop terraces in the city, perfect for enjoying the spring and summer seasons.
1. Floor 17
📍Staalmeesterslaan 410, 1057 PH
Floor 17 is the highest roof terrace in Amsterdam, and it offers spectacular views over the city, with tasty drinks and comfy seats to enjoy whilst you savour the view. Check out the website to see the drinks menu.
2. SkyBar 747
📍Schipholweg 275, 1171 PK Badhoevedorp
On the 9th floor of the Corendon Village Hotel Amsterdam, you’ll find SkyBar 747 which offers stunning views over the city. You can also spot planes coming and going from Schiphol Airport.
There’s an indoor and outdoor area, so if it starts to rain (this is Amsterdam, after all), you can appreciate the same views without getting soaked. Check out the aeroplane-themed cocktails on the website.
📍Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4, 1097 BC
The rooftop beer garden at GAPP is so charming and airy – perfect for a warm day in Amsterdam. It’s located atop Hotel Casa, pretty large and, as it’s right in the centre of Amsterdam, offers gorgeous views of the city. Check out the menu and book your table on the website.
4. Bar Bistro
📍5th floor of B. Amsterdam, Johan Huizingalaan 763a, 1066
Bar Bistro has just refreshed the whole concept of the bar last year, so if you’ve visited before it will feel quite different now. The new food is absolutely stunning, and we’d definitely visit just for that, but the beautiful, newly refurbished rooftop terrace really is the cherry on top. You’ll want to see this new menu on the website.
5. A’Dam Lookout
📍Overhoeksplein 5, 1031 KS
Across from the River IJ is A’Dam Lookout, and it’s much more than a bar and restaurant. There are tons of things to do here, including riding the Over The Edge Swing, a terrifying and exhilarating experience.
After you’ve made yourself nice and nauseous, you can grab a bite to eat on the terrace, next to the observation deck, which is a great place from which to gaze over Amsterdam. To read more about this extraordinary place, check out the website.
📍 Wibautstraat 150, 1091 GR Amsterdam
This place has a fantastic atmosphere, strung with lovely fairy lights and boasting a brilliant view over Amsterdam. It sits atop the Volkshotel building and the food is really tasty.
You can even hire a function room here, on the rooftop, which is furnished with lovely comfy chairs and greenery. To book a table, visit the website.
7. REM Amsterdam
This 80-foot tower was once home to a pirate radio and TV station, and now it’s been transformed into REM Amsterdam, a restaurant with unbeatable views.
The rooftop bar boasts, amongst other things, homemade limoncello and the chance to dance to DJ sets. If you’re looking for a memorable experience in the city then look no further, because you’re sure to have an incredible time in the summer on that helipad.
8. W Lounge
📍W Amsterdam Hotel, Spuistraat 175, NL 1012 VN
On the sixth floor of the W Hotel in Amsterdam, you’ll find a stunning rooftop bar where you can enjoy the view whatever the weather. You can gaze out at what is one of the best views in the city whilst you stay warm by the central fireplace.
The cocktails are delicious and go down easily, so make sure you count how many you’ve had! There are also plenty of delicious wines to choose from. You can even order Champagne by the glass! Plus, the gorgeous golden colour scheme, lit by the light of the fire just gives that cosy, warm atmosphere we all love.
9. Malabar Bar
Hotel Jakarta is a slice of paradise in Amsterdam, and there you’ll find the otherwordly Malabar Bar. The views from this gorgeous spot are unrivalled.
There you can enjoy super tasty, super inventive cocktails inspired by both Indonesia and Amsterdam. You can’t book a table at Malabar Bar so you will just have to cross your fingers and hope there’s one free but it’s well worth the wait if you want panoramic cocktails, a chilled atmosphere and cocktails that will keep you coming back time and time again.
