However, the restaurant industry has had to adapt this year to the constantly changing regulations put in place to protect us from Covid-19. During the first lockdown, the team came up with a brilliant new initiative that has proven to be a hit. With people staying at home, delivery became the go-to option for many restaurants and Ron Gastrobar became Ron Gastrobar At Home. Customers could order a ‘rijsttafel’ for two people to pick up, which came with instructions on how to finish cooking the dish so that the flavours could be fresh when eaten at home. After all, nobody wants a soggy takeaway!
In October, when bars and restaurants were again ordered to close unless offering a takeaway service, Ron Gastrobar At Home returned, bigger and better. This time around there is so much choice that you won’t know what to pick! There are three types of nasi rames on offer – a vegetarian option, a fish option and a meat option.
You can either order for delivery or pick up your order from one of the restaurants and, once you have it, it’s really just a matter of putting it in your oven. Detailed instructions for each dish are provided on the website and the restaurant has even put together some backing music for you to listen to whilst you enjoy your meal. There is nothing complicated or intimidating about this fancy food. The food is completely unpretentious and priced reasonably.
€99 gets you a rice box for four and the nasi rames come in at €39 for two people. Plus, you can get all dressed up to eat or simply sit in your pyjamas with a nice glass of wine. Either way, it makes for a wonderful evening at home.
