The stunning Het Scheepvaartmuseum holds 500 years of maritime history, mapping the powerful role that the Netherlands has always played in naval trade, including the Dutch Golden Age, when the country was the envy of all of Europe.
Packed full of history, this place really is extraordinary, not least due to the beautiful architecture. As visitors walk into the room, ready for a Candlelight Concert their eyes are immediately drawn to the breathtaking glass ceiling.
As hundreds of candles flicker in and the musicians begin to play, the sky sits visible overhead, making the performance even more powerful and soul-stirring. There are three Candlelight Concerts coming to Het Scheepvaartmuseum soon and you won’t want to miss any of them, that’s for sure!
To kickstart the cabbage month, there will be two Candlelight Concerts happening on February 2. The first one will be dedicated to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the second to Hans Zimmer’s Best Works. With Candlelight: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons you’ll move through the seasons as a talented string quartet renders each season in such imaginative detail they’ll bring forth memories without the need for words.
And at Candlelight: A Tribute to Hans Zimmer you’ll be transported to other worlds where lions sing with Lion King and spies jump from dream to dream stealing information with Inception. A night that promises unimaginable journeys just with the melody of music!
Then, with two back-to-back concerts, on February 3 Het Scheepvaart Museum will transform into rock stage as the songs of rock legends like AC/DC and Pink Floyd really bring the room to life. A talented string quartet will play songs like Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple and Come as You Are by Nirvana on strings. From grunge to hard rock and everything in between, there’s literally something for everyone at this Candlelight Concert.
