Amsterdam turns 750 this year, and the city isn’t blowing out the candles quietly. On June 21—yes, the longest day of the year—the A10 ring road becomes the site of the wildest, most unforgettable celebration yet. From raving to running and everything in between, tickets for the Festival op de Ring officially drop today. Let’s get into it.
Party on the Asphalt: The Highway Rave You Don’t Want to Miss
Forget traffic jams—on June 21, the A10 is turning into the biggest block party the Netherlands has ever seen. To celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th birthday, the city is doing something extraordinary: transforming 15 kilometers of its iconic ring road into a full-blown festival site for one day only. Expect dance parties, a 7.5 km race, art installations, a pop-up forest, museum exhibitions, and even weddings—yes, 20 lucky couples will say “I do” right on the asphalt!
The event is called Festival op de Ring, and it’s not just symbolic. It’s a citywide invitation to come together—on the ring instead of inside or outside of it—and experience Amsterdam in a completely new way. From 12:00 to 23:00, 25 different activities will be spread across three designated zones: West, South, and East. Check out the full program here.
The Zones: Where to Go, What You’ll Need
Organizers have divided the A10 into three celebration zones, each with its own vibe and entry requirements:
South Zone: This is the hotspot for dance music lovers. Dutch event giant Audio Obscura takes over with a nine-hour rave from noon to 9pm—turning the motorway into a pulsing open-air dancefloor. Expect lights, bass, and serious festival energy. Free tickets are required.
West Zone: Home to cultural and interactive experiences—think performance art, exhibitions, sports, and plenty of local flavor. Also ticketed, with different programs throughout the day.
East Zone: No ticket? No problem. This is your go-to. The Run on the Ring kicks off here, and while it won’t be as music-heavy, there will still be fun, family-friendly programming and open access to explore part of the closed highway.
Tickets are free, but limited: just 280,000 in total, released today, on May 21 at 10:00 CEST. That’s only enough for about a quarter of Amsterdam’s population, so expect a digital stampede. You can book up to six morning tickets or four for the afternoon/evening, and you’ll need to select in advance which slip road you’ll use to access the event. Planning ahead is essential!
