Imagine a summer night under string lights, theater tents glowing, the smell of crêpes in the air, and surprise performances happening all around you. That’s Theaterfestival de Parade—the world’s only traveling theater festival. In 2025, it’s rolling through Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht, with more than 80 unique performances and plenty of playful magic.
The Only One of Its Kind
You read that right: Theaterfestival de Parade is the only traveling theater festival on Earth. Every summer, it pitches its signature red tents in city parks across the Netherlands, transforming green spaces into colorful hubs of theater, music, dance, mime and comedy. Each stop features a different mix of performances—many created especially for the Parade—and no two days have the same lineup. With most shows lasting around 30 minutes, you’re free to hop from one performance to the next like a cultural tasting menu.
Beyond the Stage: A Carnival of Creativity
The Parade isn’t just about what happens inside the tents. Take a ride on the iconic Swing Mill (if you dare to aim for a glimpse of the angel on top), stumble upon spontaneous acts during the Parade maken stroll, or chill on a terrace while performers serve up surprise previews. There’s a dedicated Children’s Parade, a silent disco, and street corners that turn into stages without warning. Whether you’ve planned your evening or just showed up to wander, the festival promises unexpected fun at every turn.
Food, Flavor & Festive Vibes
When it’s time to refuel, you’re spoiled for choice. The Parade grounds are packed with food stalls dishing up everything from Asian delights to spicy Indian curries. Got a sweet tooth? Make your own lollipop, bake poffertjes, or stack up a custom crêpe. Sip a cocktail, grab a local beer, and settle into the vibe! It’s as much a culinary journey as a cultural one.
