Anyone flying through Schiphol on busy days knows that security screening can really dampen the vacation spirit. With wait times that can easily reach 45 minutes during morning rush hours and holiday periods, thousands of travelers nervously glance at their watches as they inch forward in line.
There is a persistent misconception among travelers that the “Fast Track” lanes are reserved exclusively for Business Class passengers or those with an expensive Privium subscription. Nothing could be further from the truth: Schiphol offers the exact same fast-track lane free of charge to all passengers. Yet the vast majority walk right past it every day, simply because many are unaware of the correct digital route and the strict rules at the gates.
Here’s how to use the free fast lane at Schiphol

Bypassing the regular security line doesn’t require a subscription, but it does require a little preparation via Schiphol’s official website or app. The airport makes a limited number of digital access passes available each day to better spread out peak times at the security scanners.
Booking and using this fast lane follows four set steps:
- Book starting 3 days before departure: You can make a reservation exactly 72 hours before your flight. Choose a 15-minute time slot for your group and receive a confirmation email with a QR code.
- Proceed to security after checking in: Drop off your checked baggage and keep your boarding pass handy. In the hall, follow the signs that say “Reserved for time slots.”
- Scan your QR code at the gate: Report to the lane within 15 minutes. A staff member will scan the QR code on your phone for your entire travel party.
- Go through security without a long line: You walk straight to the CQS scanners. The screening process remains the same, but you skip the entire regular wait time.
Rules and smart hacks for getting through Schiphol even faster

In addition to reserving a time slot, there are several other ways to save time at the airport. With these practical tips from experts, you can avoid getting stuck at baggage drop-off or security.
- Pay close attention to the time window: You have a 15-minute window before and 15 minutes after your reserved time. If you’re late, your access expires and you’ll have to join the regular line.
- Keep passport control in mind: The free fast lane applies exclusively to the security checkpoint. If you’re flying outside the Schengen Area, you’ll still need to go through passport control conducted by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee afterward.
- P3 parking hack for your luggage: Are you parking at P3 and flying with TUI, Transavia, or KLM? Drop off your luggage directly at the check-in counter in the parking lot and board the bus without your bags.
- Take thick books out of your bag: Laptops and liquids can now stay in your bag at the CT scanners, but a thick magazine or book blocks the view of the scan, triggering a manual inspection.
- Clothing at the scanner: Don’t wear too many layers of clothing and avoid shoes with thick soles. Anything you have to remove at the security checkpoint immediately takes extra time.
