Amsterdam is buzzing with excitement this weekend, as the National Open Bee Days 2025 are back on Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13. At five locations across the city (and many more throughout the country), visitors can take a peek into the fascinating world of bees: meet local beekeepers, look inside beehives, and taste fresh, locally produced honey. It’s a rare chance to discover the hidden lives of these tiny powerhouses and learn why they’re more important than you might think.
Discover the buzzing world of Amsterdam’s bees

This weekend, Amsterdammers can visit five unique locations as part of the national Open Bee Days. From community gardens in Oost to urban rooftops in the Jordaan: each apiary offers a glimpse into the complex world of bees. Friendly beekeepers will guide you through live demonstrations with beehives and teach you about pollination. They’ll also share fascinating facts, such as how a single colony can house more than 60,000 bees working together in harmony! And best of all: there’s a honey tasting— sweet, golden, and made right in your own neighborhood.
Why bees are more important than you think
In addition to the honey, these open houses are a chance to learn how crucial bees are to our food supply and local ecosystems. Without pollinators, a large part of the produce section would be empty. Amsterdam’s beekeepers are passionately dedicated to raising awareness, from explaining the seasonal diet of bees to sharing tips on how to support urban biodiversity. Who knows, you might go home inspired and sign up for a beginner’s beekeeping course! With over 11,000 beekeepers in the Netherlands, it’s a growing, environmentally conscious community worth joining.
