The gorgeous Bloemenmarkt has been around since 1862 and it’s still going strong, floating atop the Singel canal in Amsterdam. You can expect fresh flowers six days a week, from Monday to Saturday but this place is open every day of the week.
It’s the perfect place to go for a nice spring walk!
Tulips, roses, daffodils: whatever you’re looking for you can get it here if it’s the right time of year! Flowers in the Netherlands are often grown in greenhouses so sometimes there are even flowers that are out of season.
Once a moat that encircled medieval Amsterdam, the Singel is now the innermost canal in Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed ring of canals. It runs from the IJ bay, near the Central Station, to the Muntplein square, where it meets the Amstel river.
You’ll also find bulbs and plants at Bloemenmarkt, alongside plenty of other produce like cheese and little souvenirs very popular with tourists. Years and years ago flowers growers would sail straight up to the spot where the market now sits.
Now, you’ll find fixed barges, with glass rooves that resemble greenhouses. So, come rain or shine you can rely on Bloemenmarkt to bring you beautiful flowers. Spring is the perfect time to brighten up your home with some lovely blooms!
📍You’ll find it at Singel, 1012 DH.
📆 Opening hours are from 9 am – 5.30 pm every day apart from Sunday, when it opens from 11 am – 5.30 pm.
