A study has ranked Amsterdam the third most romantic city in the world and you might not quite believe it, given the weather we have here. So why is Amsterdam up there in the rankings?
Well, the city certainly has its charm. If you visited Museumplein yesterday and saw it filled with thousands of beautiful tulips then you’ll know what I’m talking about.
There is something intoxicating about Amsterdam, with those gorgeous canals that provide the opportunity to look down into the water every few minutes when you’re in the centre and charmingly crooked buildings.
So why is Amsterdam the third most romantic city in the world?
The study, from Bounce, looked at a number of factors, from the number of romantic activities available per capita to the average cost of staying in a hotel for a couple of nights. This data was analysed and each city was given a score out of ten.
Amsterdam scored 7.49, which is certainly not to be sniffed at. Unfortunately, though, we missed out on the top spot with Paris, France and San Francisco, USA in first and second respectively.
We did beat a few cities, the likes of which might surprise you:
- Paris, France (8.87)
- San Francisco, USA (7.59)
- Amsterdam, the Netherlands (7.49)
- Barcelona, Spain (7.44)
- Lisbon, Portugal (7.28)
- Florence, Italy (6.77)
- Dublin, Ireland (6.51)
- Seville, Spain (6.46)
- Santa Barbara, USA (6.41)
- Marrakesh, Morocco (6.26)
So the next time you’re feeling down about a terrible date, try to console yourself with the knowledge that Amsterdam is the third most romantic city in the world. Then eat loads of chocolate.
