For the second year running, Amsterdam Noord has been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world. This fantastic area of Amsterdam has once again ranked 32nd in the ratings, which certainly isn’t too shabby when you consider how many areas there are in the Netherlands alone.
So what makes Amsterdam Noord so special? Well, anybody who lives there will have their own opinions and reasons for loving the area but the report cites a few specific things.
Of course, the fact that you can cross the River IJ to get to Noord is super-convenient. It’s nowhere near as busy as places like De Pijp, either.
It’s not too long ago that Noord was essentially populated by warehouses and shipping containers. It was a kind of relic of the city’s industrial heritage and it still is, only now those warehouses are actual houses.
Filled with breweries, cafes, amazing restaurants and other social spaces, it’s diverse, exciting and absolutely one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world. Wherever your interests lie, whether it be in art, food or social activism, there’s somewhere in Noord to captivate everybody.
The report also talks about a few specific spots in the city. For example, the fantastic Coffee Virus – A Lab, where you’ll find delicious brews.
The Amsterdam Dance Event is also lucky enough to take place in Noord and it looks as though it will be back this autumn! So where else made the list of coolest neighbourhoods in the world?
Well, Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, Mexico took the first spot and Cais do Sodré in Lisbon, Portugal came in second. Here are the top ten:
